Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Announces Major Reforms in Education System

Introduction

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced a series of major reforms in the state's education system, aimed at improving the quality of education and making it more accessible to all students.

The reforms, which were announced at a press conference in Guwahati on Tuesday, include:

  • The establishment of a new Assam Education Commission
  • A new 10+2 system of education
  • A focus on skill development and vocational training
  • Increased investment in early childhood education
  • A new teacher training program

Sarma said that the reforms were necessary to address the challenges facing the state's education system, including low literacy rates and a shortage of skilled workers.

"We need to make our education system more relevant to the needs of the 21st century," Sarma said. "These reforms will help us to do that."

The Assam Education Commission will be responsible for overseeing the implementation of the reforms and making recommendations for further improvements in the future.

The new 10+2 system of education will replace the current 10+1 system. The additional year of study will be devoted to skill development and vocational training.

Sarma said that the government will also be investing heavily in early childhood education. "We know that the early years are critical for a child's development," Sarma said. "We want to make sure that all children in Assam have access to quality early childhood education."

The new teacher training program will focus on developing the skills and knowledge necessary to teach in the 21st century classroom.

Sarma said that the government is committed to making these reforms a success.

"These reforms are essential for the future of Assam," Sarma said. "We are confident that they will help us to create a better education system for our children."
