2006 Lebanon War: Hezbollah and Israel Clash
Background and Conflict
The 2006 Lebanon War, also known as the 2006 Israel-Hezbollah War and the July War in Lebanon, erupted on July 12, 2006, between Israel and Hezbollah, a Lebanese Shia Islamist political party and militant organization.
Cause and Outbreak
The proximate cause of the war was a cross-border attack by Hezbollah that captured two Israeli soldiers and killed three. Hezbollah had been engaged in a long-running conflict with Israel as part of the Lebanese Civil War.
Hezbollah's Leadership
Hassan Nasrallah, Hezbollah's leader, played a pivotal role in the war. Despite hiding since the previous conflict in 2006, Nasrallah and Hezbollah managed to withstand Israel's military offensive for 34 days, ultimately leaving them victorious.
