Former Cast Member Of Discovery Channels Extreme Fishing Reality Series

Nick Mavar, 'Deadliest Catch' Deckhand, Dies at 59

Former Cast Member of Discovery Channel's Extreme Fishing Reality Series

Natural Causes Cause Death in Alaska Boat Yard

Nick Mavar, a former deckhand on Discovery Channel's reality series "Deadliest Catch," died Thursday afternoon in Naknek, Alaska. The cause of death was determined to be natural causes.

Mavar's death was announced by the Bristol Bay Police Chief, Jeffrey Eldie, who confirmed that the 59-year-old Croatia native had experienced a medical emergency at a Naknek boatyard on June 13. The police received a 911 call and responded to the scene, but Mavar was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Mavar appeared in 16 seasons of "Deadliest Catch," which follows the crews of fishing vessels in the Bering Sea. He was known for his hard work and dedication, and his death has been met with an outpouring of grief from his former colleagues and fans.

Following his departure from "Deadliest Catch," Mavar reportedly had been spotted captaining his own salmon boat in the Bristol Bay area. His death is a reminder of the risks that fishermen face every day, and it serves as a tragic end to a chapter in the life of one of the show's most memorable characters.
