Toronto Maple Leafs Hires Derek Clancey As Assistant General Manager Player Personnel

Toronto Maple Leafs hires Derek Clancey as assistant general manager player personnel

July 18, 2023

The Toronto Maple Leafs have hired Derek Clancey as assistant general manager player personnel, the team announced Tuesday.

Clancey comes to the Maple Leafs after spending the last two seasons with the Vancouver Canucks, where he served as director of player personnel. Prior to joining the Canucks, Clancey spent 10 seasons with the Pittsburgh Penguins, where he helped the team win three Stanley Cups.

Clancey's hiring is the latest move by Maple Leafs general manager Kyle Dubas to improve the team's hockey operations department. In recent months, Dubas has also hired John Ferguson Jr. as senior advisor to the general manager and Danielle Sauvageau as director of player evaluation.

"We are excited to add Derek Clancey to our hockey operations department," Dubas said in a statement. "I feel Derek is one of the premier talent evaluators in our game. He is a three-time Stanley Cup champion, and we are confident that he will be a valuable asset to our organization."

Clancey's hiring is a significant addition to the Maple Leafs' front office. He is a highly respected talent evaluator with a proven track record of success. His experience and expertise will be a valuable asset to the Maple Leafs as they look to build a team that can compete for the Stanley Cup.
