A Look Back at Tornadoes that have Impacted the City

A long-track tornado began at 5:00 pm CST (6:00 pm CDT) in Cleveland County in east Norman to the north. The tornado tracked northeast for 35 miles (56 km), causing significant damage in Moore, Midwest City, and Del City. The tornado then crossed into Oklahoma City, where it caused widespread damage and killed four people. The tornado continued to track northeast, causing damage in Edmond, Guthrie, and Langston before dissipating near Crescent. The tornado was rated F4 on the Fujita scale and had a maximum width of one mile (1.6 km).

The National Weather Service Norman Oklahoma identified this as a significant tornado and one of the five strong violent tornadoes that day in Oklahoma.
